5 Signs of Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal balance is a commonly used term, but actually very difficult to define. It's a simple, yet broad way of describing the optimal level and functioning of various hormones within the body.

However, it's important to note that all hormones change at various times. Some follow a diurnal rhythm, with peaks and troughs at different times of day, others follow a monthly rhythm and some respond to external stimuli completely out of our control. So the term hormonal balance simply refers to hormones functioning in their normal and optimal way.

Here are 5 symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance:

  1. Irregular Periods: Hormonal imbalance during the menstrual cycle can lead to irregular or missed periods.

  2. Fatigue: Low levels of thyroid hormones or imbalances in cortisol can result in persistent low energy and fatigue.

  3. Mood Swings or Anxiety: Imbalances in various hormones, including the sex steroid hormones estrogen and testosterone can impact mood and increase the risk of depression.

  4. Weight Gain: Thyroid hormones, cortisol, insulin and testosterones can impact metabolic rate and energy partitioning, which in turn can impact weight and body composition.

  5. Acne: Imbalances in androgens (e.g. testosterone) or estrogen can result in acne or other skin problems.

Hormonal balance is the natural and normal functioning of key hormones. So the best way to manage and balance your hormones is to maintain good health through various lifestyle pillars.

Here are 5 things that will help Hormonal Balance:

  1. Regular Exercise: Physical activity of all kinds, but particularly aerobic exercise and strength training helps to regulate many critical hormones. But recovery is crucial as exercise is stressful and can lead to further imbalances if not done correctly. Consume the B.fresh Recover juice or Turmeric shots post-workout to optimise and accelerate recovery.

  2. Sleep: Getting 7-9-hours of high quality sleep per night helps regulate and reset hormones. It's also critical for managing stress. Support sleep and quality rest with the B.fresh Sleep shot 30-minutes before bed.

  3. A Balanced Diet: Consuming a fibre rich, nutrient dense diet, with heart healthy fats, lean proteins and various fruits and vegetables to avoid nutrient deficiencies is critically important. This can be challenging, so including B.fresh Gut Health smoothies or Greens juices can help.

  4. Stress Management: Chronic stress will elevate cortisol, which in turn disrupts the balance of other hormones. Meditation, yoga, breathwork or simply going for a walk outdoors can help manage stress.

  5. Limit Exposure to Endocrine Disruptors: Limit your exposure to plastics and pesticides as they can disrupt the regulation of various hormones.

Hormonal balance might seem complex, but in reality managing your hormones is actually easier than you might think and certainly does not require extensive, expensive supplements. Focus on the 5 lifestyle pillars consistently and your hormones will be happy and body thankful.
